Walk by Faith, not by Sight

The Bible authors were all well aware of what they were asking us to believe. The author of our primary study chapter in this series, Hebrews 11, clearly states that we are expected to believe in the “unseen” (Hebrews 11:1). We are not only expected to believe in the existence of the supernatural realm (God and such), but we can actually have “assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV) by this medium of faith.
Let me reiterate, faith in God and His spiritual realm is not a shot in the dark or a blind leap over a cliff. The author of Hebrews begins with a foundational truth that requires faith but is also the most obvious. The “seen” universe was created by an “unseen” God (Hebrews 11:3). There is absolutely no plausible explanation for the creation of the universe other than God.
According to the worlds’ theory of creation, “something” had to exist in the beginning in order for their theory to be in any way credible. Something, an energy wave or particle of matter or scientific law or whatever (at minimum), must be present at the beginning of the universe. There is and never will be any way to circumvent this truth. The only logical explanation is that the beginning tangible “something” was brought into the universe by an intangible, unseen “Someone.” In other words, the creation of the universe at least initiated by a Creator and Designer is the most credible scientific theory.

WALK BY FAITH, NOT SIGHT
The author spends most of this chapter with specific examples of those who have succeeded in monumental feats or life-changes or those who have simply survived and lived-out their entire lives according to faith in God and His promises. Throughout this chapter (and passages throughout the Bible) there is this constant comparison and relationship between the “seen” and “unseen”; in other words, between the spiritual, supernatural Kingdom of God and the natural, physical, material world.
This is the challenge for the Christian – to bring the “unseen” Kingdom and its principles into the “seen” material world. In other words, we should be just as (actually more) aware of the “unseen,” spiritual world as we are to the “seen,” material world. Since we, as Christians, are citizens of a spiritual kingdom we should operate based upon the principles of His kingdom rather than the world’s M.O. (modus operandi).
