"Do 'Little Things' Really Make an Impact?"
QUESTION 2: Do those “little things” of day-to-day life truly make such an impact for God’s kingdom, and are they actually a fulfillment of my destiny?
The answer is, “most definitely yes.” Simply by following God in our lives day by day we make a momentous impact on this world and thus the lives of others. It is not nearly as difficult as we envision.
Never forget that “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). When we trust God with our very lives…when we obey His will day by day…when we glorify God in everything we do…that, folks, is faith! And God WILL use that faith to make a difference in the world…guaranteed…in WHATEVER WE PUT OUR HAND TO DO!
Let me give you one quick Biblical example. Jesus sat down in the temple near the place where the worshipers presented their offerings. He observed as several wealthy individuals self-assuredly tossed in considerable sums of money. Suddenly and slowly, a poor widow approaches the coffers and carefully and humbly places a few measly pennies within. What was Jesus’ response? “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on” (Mark 12:43-44).
Now, you tell me, how is it possible that the underprivileged widow put more into the treasury than the others? We tend to answer with a “spiritual” explanation like “Well, she put in more of her ‘heart and soul’ which is what Jesus is truly searching for.” This would be a proper interpretation of the passage “in general.” I have previously preached on these verses and used a similar life application. Nevertheless, I do believe the meaning goes deeper and is germane to our question.
It is obvious that the woman did not give anywhere near the amount of money as the others. So how could her few pennies be assessed as more “valuable” in advancing God’s Kingdom than the amount given by the others (other than in a spiritual application)? How could her offering possibly be considered “more” in any logical way? The answer is, again, simple. God is moved by this woman’s whole-hearted faith, trust, obedience, and generosity. He will act by the power of His Spirit and perform mighty acts with the widow’s few pennies. How many you know that God can do more with a few pennies offered in faith and thus anointed by His Spirit than with millions of dollars.
I trust we can more clearly understand how God is moved by faith and trust and obedience in the simple things of life. Transformation happens within us…entire nations are turned upside down…by a simple trust in God. God moves mountains due to our sincere hearts and unwavering faith in His plan. What we do each day makes a difference!
