A devotion from our very own, Jack Calvert
Trinity Church Family
I wanted to express my thanks for the difference that you have made in my life the past two years. I was baptized 40 years ago, and had wandered in my walk with Christ ever since. I was like the seed sown in stony ground, I would make Jesus a priority in my life for a few months, but then I’d burn out and fade away until Christ was just an after thought. About a couple months before the 175th anniversary of Trinity, Mark Short, who for years inspired me with the word, invited me to come to his Sunday school class. Now my seed has been replanted in the good soil of Trinity, and I am excited to spend the next 40 years producing fruit a hundred fold!
I look forward to the teaching and insight of Mark and the guys in Sunday school class, I was hungry for the word and you fed me. No matter who the leader is or who is playing, our praise band rocks. Every Sunday, tears of joy stream down my face as we sing praises to our Lord. Joey’s message is both entertaining and educational, we laugh as we learn. But more important is the times he came when we called, to bring us support and prayer.
I am not a morning person, so 6 am is a challenge. Last year I pledged that I would go to Tuesday morning prayer during the summer when we are out of town and miss Sunday services. I was hooked, (it’s not just the donuts) and have been a regular ever since. The wisdom and intimacy of this small group has been an essential part of my walk.
The children’s ministry really touches my heart, watching my granddaughter K.K. and the other little ones puts a smile on my face every time. Jacklynn loves our youth group and the activities with Ron and Patti.
The outreach programs have taken me to the next level. Robbie and the guys from the NGL mission trips to Mardi Gras and Indy, and carrying the cross down Main Street made me see how to serve in a new light. I am anticipating another revival of my spirit when Tim sponsors me at Emmaus this fall.
I was asked recently why I chose to come to Trinity. I answered immediately... The People and The Holy Spirit confirmed it
From Sunday services, to Tuesday morning prayer, to the children and youth programs, to our outreach programs, all have changed my life for the better. Now I understand that church is not an obligation to repay God for His goodness, but an opportunity to be a humble servant to our awesome God. Thank God for Trinity.
