The Role of Jesus in Creation

So was Jesus an innocent bystander, a spectator of the spectacular spectacle of creation?  Was He perhaps cheering God the Father and the Holy Spirit along during the conception of the world like a fan at a ballgame?  John continues in His powerful revelation of the Word by explaining Jesus’ role or work in that creation process:

“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3, NKJV).

Here again is the “wow” factor.  EVERYTHING (barring none), the entire universe, every DNA or the tiniest particle known to man, was made through Jesus Christ.  As if to emphasize this particular point John repeats himself in the same sentence “without Him nothing was made that was made.”

Folks, this is Christmas.  This is the Christ we celebrate at this “most wonderful time of the year.”  This is the Word who became flesh.  This is God!

“6 Christ himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the things we can’t; the spirit world with its kings and kingdoms, its rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ for his own use and glory” (Colossians 1:16, TLB).

Christ was obviously not a spectator but an active force in all of creation.  Everything was made through Him.  And just so no one would mistake the deity of Christ (He is God) Paul in the next verse of Colossians states, “He existed before everything else” (Colossian 1:17a, NLT).  Paul was writing to a church where some were promoting heresy in an attempt to devalue Christ by teaching He was some sort of lesser created being.  Paul concludes He is not like anything or anyone else in creation, because He existed before all of creation.  He is not “part” of the creatION but is the CreatOR.
