Worth It All!
Matthew in chapter thirteen of his gospel presents to us an entire chapter of Jesus’ parables. Two very brief parables about the kingdom of heaven are presented concurrently. The main point is evident in both (Mt. 13:44-46, NLT) as we read the three verses:
44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.
45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!
The person discovers something of such value (in these cases, a treasure in a field or a one-of-a-kind pearl) that he or she is willing, no enthusiastic, about giving up everything he or she has in order to purchase the treasure. It is not a sacrifice but an exuberant exchange. Why? Due to the fact that the purchaser realizes he has discovered something of infinite value, a rarity, a one-of-a-kind, something irreplaceable and irreproducible.
Second on the list of the world’s most expensive collectibles (therichest.com) is a William Shakespeare autograph. Find one and you will be a millionaire because one Shakespeare signature is worth a purported $3-5 million. Why? For the reason that it is from one of the most renowned authors in history and there are NONE know to be in existence other than those already in private institutions. It is rare indeed.
Number one on the list is the world’s largest diamond necklace called “The Golden Giant” which was sold for $55 million dollars in Singapore in 2013. A young girl found the egg-sized 407 carat centerpiece diamond underneath a pile of debris. It is one-of-a-kind.
God is bigger. God is better. God is more unique. God is matchless. He is worth surrendering all that we have in order to obtain this “Collectible.”
